Have you ever wondered what it might be like to return to the world of first grade? If so, you are in luck! On March 16, 2026, talented thespians auditioned for the Junie B. Jones the Musical, a performance which will specifically be for young audiences.
During auditions, students read for many different characters, ranging from Junie B. Jones herself to Lucille, the popular girl. These students embraced an opportunity to showcase their talents under the pressure of critique from the three directors—Mrs. Peceniak, Mr. Grigas, and Ms. Alcorn. These directors strive to create an exciting show for young audiences, hence the new program name, “Theater for Young Audiences (TYA).” Founded in 1965, the TYA is the leading national organization for the professional field of theater for children and families, representing theaters, organizations, and individual artists across 45 states. The mission of the TYA is to connect, cultivate, and advocate for theater, by providing opportunities and resources in programming, professional development, research, and leadership. With only three shows on April 24 , the cast is determined to make the best of their time on stage, presenting for schools throughout the diocese, including St. Joan of Arc and St. Mary of Gostyn. Despite this quick showcase, the cast, crew, and directors are sure to make an entertaining and fascinating show, centered around Junie B. Jones and her first-grade year! As sophomore Neda Unguraitis, cast as Lucille, said, “I’m so excited to be a part of this show as Lucille! I love the message it sends about dealing with the struggles in life in a lighthearted, sweet way! I really hope it inspires the youth to try theater!”
