For multiple decades, the idea of uniforms has been debated by countless teachers, students, and administrators. Some view uniforms as a way to save time in the mornings and avoid the hassle of picking out an outfit. Others believe that uniforms limit students’ self-expression and comfort.
While the Benet boy’s uniform has remained the same for many years, the girls’ uniform has recently undergone changes. For the 2025-2026 school year, Benet changed the uniform bottom from a culotte to a regular skirt. The school also added two new options for shirts: a black polo and a red polo. I interviewed multiple Benet students to get their opinions, and the results proved uniforms to be popular.
Maggie Stott, a sophomore, stated that she appreciates having a regular skirt rather than a culotte because she prefers the look of the skirt and believes that it pairs well with the rest of the uniform. Sophomore Maddie Maggio expressed that she loves wearing the new uniforms, specifically the polos, because they are more comfortable than the button-down shirts of past years. Tessa Data, a member of the class of 2028, agreed with Maddie, commenting that she also likes the polos. However, Tessa also stated that she dislikes having banded shirts and wishes that she could wear the shirts without the elastic, like the class of 2025 did.
Although there are conflicting opinions regarding school uniforms, they are here to stay at Benet Academy. The recent updates seem to have helped uniforms gain popularity among the student body, as they have improved the uniforms visually and increased comfort.
