On August 21, 2024, rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors gathered in the Alumni Gym for Check-In Day to prepare themselves for a new school year.
In particular, Check-In Day welcomes freshmen to a four-year journey at Benet Academy and provides them an opportunity to navigate the school campus for the first time, receive important information on the beginning of their high school careers, and meet friends in a new environment. For returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors, Check-In Day offers a refresher on past expectations and is an excellent time to socialize with old friends.
Through the entrance at Saint Martin’s Lobby, students entered the school according to a staggered schedule based on their last name. Among the various tables in Benet’s Alumni Gym, students waited in lines to obtain their student planners, add lunch money to their accounts, receive ID cards, and get yearbooks. Dozens of parent and student volunteers manned the stations at the Alumni Gym, and other school officials, including deans, offered assistance during Check-In Day.
When asked how Check-In Day inspires students for the start of a great school year, senior John Augustyn responded, “It gives students the opportunity to prepare so students aren’t scrambling in the halls… and is a reminder for them to enjoy the waning days of summer.”
Beyond the Alumni Gym, numerous sophomores, juniors, and seniors meandered through the winding halls at Benet, visiting friends’ lockers and escorting their freshman siblings on campus tours. As volunteers dutifully organized clothes outside the Spirit Store, parents chatted amiably among themselves outside the larger St. Ronald’s Gymnasium. Behind the scenes, custodians swept the floors and organized classrooms for the following days, teachers prepared their lessons alongside new desks, and students prepared to put their Apple Pencils to work.
