As the Redwings come back from a restful weekend, Life Week kicked off. The week started with many students dressed in pink and blue, showing their support to new parents struggling with unplanned pregnancies. Throughout the week, the halls were decorated with dozens of posters displaying support for mothers and educating students about the importance of life in all its forms. In addition, every day during the announcements, students and teachers shared their own testimonies about why choosing life is so important. Diana Viz, in particular, spoke about her own experience with her baby nephew. She states, “I have always been very adamant about the Pro-life movement, but seeing him blossom into this beautiful baby makes me even more Pro-life.” These impactful speeches helped students gain an understanding of why Benet is Pro-life. Throughout the week, students asked for Mary’s intercession to help protect the babies and mothers by saying a Rosary during their homeroom periods in the Chapel. Ending the week on Friday, students donated money for Waterleaf Women’s Center, raising over $5,000.
However, the festivities did not end there. Following every school day during the week, various events took place. After school on Tuesday, a speaker from the program “Students for Life” gave a Pro-Life Apologetics Talk. Through this, he walked through a baby’s development and discussed terms often misused when talking about this process. Beginning this year, there was a diaper and wipe drive to help support new mothers. Through this charity drive, not only are mothers given help in the pregnancy process, but Waterleaf will also be able to offer resources after a baby is born.
Additionally, students created Sidewalk Chalk displays, using colors to support the Pro-life cause. Walking into school the next day, Redwings were greeted with messages of inspiration on the importance of life. Through fundraising and fun activities, the Benet community celebrated the gift of life by giving back to new families.
