The Benet Football Team recently had its first home game of the season, allowing the school to come together, cheer on its team, and celebrate Homecoming! The Redwings faced off against Notre Dame (Niles) High School in a hard-fought game that unfortunately ended with the Redwings losing 25-30. Nevertheless, the game was incredibly fun, with the Redwings being decked out in USA-themed gear. Students, alumni, Redwing parents, and faculty members all joined together on this memorable night to celebrate the kickoff of the first home game of the 2026 season and cheer on the Redwings.

The Avions and cheerleaders performed beautifully at the game, putting on a halftime show to remember. Junior Rachael Wojciechowski, a member of Avions, stated, “I loved to dance with my team at halftime. I am very happy that the performance went well and that everyone enjoyed it!”

This game was Benet’s first taste of the CCL-Purple Conference of the new season, and despite the loss, the Redwings fought hard until the last minute. However, Notre Dame fended off multiple strong comeback attempts the Redwings made throughout the game. Despite this loss, Benet approaches their upcoming games with vigor and optimism. The team has two more home games left on October 2nd against IC Catholic Prep High School and October 16th against St. Patrick High School. Both will be at 7:30 PM at Benedictine. The Redwings will grow strong from this Homecoming loss and fight to make their fans proud in these remaining weeks of the season.
