Throughout the 2026 season, the Benet Girls Golf Team worked tirelessly both on and off the course, an effort made evident by its great success. Both JV and varsity had incredible seasons and finished undefeated in dual matches, a fantastic accomplishment.
This varsity team finished as the runner ups at regionals. Sophomore Lauren Gauss shot a 66 and senior Maddie Maldonado shot a 71. Both of these scores reflect the amazing work ethic and dedication of the team. Gauss’s score was the best of the girls’ season up to that point! At conference, top scores included a 69 by Gauss, an 80 by Maldonado, an 82 by junior Kate Lewis, and an 83 by freshman Bonnie Reed. The team was named conference champions! The girls earned their spot at state by coming in third at sectionals. Lewis said, “I feel like this year it was good. We made it to state as a team, but four of us made it to day two individually. I feel like it was just really fun to be there with the team and everyone.”
These girls truly love what they do. Their passion for all aspects of the sport is evident through their love for the team. Junior Elle Hodgeman said that it was, “overall a good season [that was] very fun and exciting.” She also noted that, “golf obviously is not a game of perfection, so some individual players have … bad rounds but they bring their scores up the next round.”
This resilience is a perfect summation of the team. Benet is extremely proud of all these girls accomplished this season. Let’s go Redwings!
