Benet students are lucky to have many clubs, sports, and other activities to participate in at school. They can create clubs based on their own interests and the interests of others, which helps Benet clubs remain popular. I interviewed multiple students, both current club leaders and those hoping to start new clubs, in order to get a better idea of some of the clubs that are available and some that will become available in the future.
Chidera Ezimako is a junior, and she is the president of the Diversity Leadership Council (DLC). They meet once a month on Friday mornings to learn about other cultures and play games. A couple times a semester, the DLC comes together for service projects. Their most popular event is packing food for the Ronald McDonald house and local elementary schools. Last year, they donated 360 snack packs! The DLC will be packing food again next month and would love to get as many volunteers as possible. For this year, Chidera said she is most excited to start a new event called the World Culture Fair. The goal of this event is for students of different races and ethnicities to share their individual cultures through food and games.
Junior Reagan Gryder is the co-president of the Cuisine Club, which meets on the second Thursday of every month. The Cuisine Club gives students the opportunity to experience many cultures and appreciate diversity by trying a variety of foods. Each meeting has a different theme, usually based on a specific country. Those at the meeting watch a presentation about the country where the food originated and then try the different foods. This year in the Cuisine Club, Reagan is most excited for a potential food drive that will help the community and serve others.
Junior Neda Unguraitis is looking to start a new club at Benet called the Cosmetology Club. This club would teach people how to do makeup, hair, nails, and skincare through fun games and competitions. Neda said that she wants to start this club because she loves cosmetology and wants to share her passion with others by teaching them more about it. She finds that cosmetology creates bonds and grows creativity. Cosmetology helps people learn more about taking care of their hair and skin and embracing natural beauty. Neda stated that she is very excited to help others feel confident in their own skin through this club. She would also like this club to help the Benet Theatre Association prepare for the aesthetic aspects of their shows. She hopes that the Cosmetology Club will help people form new friendships and new passions.
