“But he answered, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”’” (Matthew 4:4). The written word is an essential aspect of the Catholic faith, but interpreting Scripture by oneself is not an easy task. I can attest that there are times I will read and re-read a Bible passage and still not understand its message. If you also find interpreting the Bible hard at first glance, that is completely normal. However, there is a club at Benet that can guide your interpretation of the written word while also exposing you to other people’s perspectives. That club is Bible Cafe.
Meetings are held every other Thursday at 7:15 A.M in J307. The leaders for the 2026-27 school year are juniors Clare Bremner, Olivia Bracken, and Jake Salvino. The meeting agenda typically looks like this:
- Arrive at 7:15 and grab provided breakfast treats.
- Start in group prayer.
- Discuss opening questions that lead into the passage.
- A student reads the passage out loud.
- Students take time to reflect.
- Students discuss closing questions, giving them an opportunity to expand their perspectives.
- Students come to a conclusion on how they will apply this passage to their daily life.
- Students end in group prayer.

Although the Bible is accessible to us all, this club is special in that it allows students to hear the thoughts of other Catholics and widen their perspectives. Sophomore Sarah Read stated, “What I love about Bible Cafe is that I am able to hear other people’s opinions on the Bible that I never would have thought of if I were by myself.”
In addition, reading the Bible is a great way to start one’s day on a high note. Junior Hannah O’Leary said, “I absolutely love starting my day by reading the Word; it allows me to go into my day with a better mindset.” Bible Cafe offers students a beautiful opportunity to learn more about their faith by reading and discussing God’s Word.
