Cuisine Club, a fan favorite among Benet students of all grades, meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7:15 A.M. At each meeting the leaders choose a specific type of food to focus on and then they give a presentation about that food and its origin.
Cuisine Club’s first meeting of the 2026-2027 school year focused on food from Spanish-speaking countries. Those who attended the meeting enjoyed churros and Jarritos soda and listened to a presentation about the cultures of the countries that they originated from. Club members learned that churros are originally from Spain. They were made by shepherds as a substitute for regular bread because they could easily be cooked on top of an open fire. Churros got their name because of their twists. The twisted form of churros makes them look like the horns of a Churra sheep. Jarritos is a type of Mexican soda. It is very popular, even in the United States. The soda is known for its fruit flavors and for being made with real sugar, rather than the artificial sweeteners of most American sodas.
Those who attended Cuisine Club can agree that it was a success. Junior Tessa Data stated, “My favorite part of the meeting was hanging out with my friends and getting to try new foods.” Cuisine Club is a great way to learn about other cultures while enjoying tasty new foods.
