Catholics believe that going to Mass is one of the most important parts of their faith. While daily Mass is offered each day before school, Benet also occasionally holds all-school Masses to help students and teachers grow in their faith. The recent Mass on Friday, October 2nd, was a shining example of Benet coming together as a faith-centered community. This Mass, celebrated by Fr. Alex Lorang from St. Raphael, was held to celebrate all of our guardian angels and the profound impact they have on our lives.
Much work goes into making a Mass happen. For this Mass, the hard work of everyone involved was easy to see. Fr. Lorang, Deacon Christopher, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and musicians worked together to make the Mass a beneficial experience. Fr. Lorang clearly put a lot of thought into his insightful homily. He mentioned that though we may not be able to directly see some things at work, we can still observe their effects. Some examples he brought up were wireless charging and gravity. Since we believe in many things we can only see the effects of, it is rational to apply that logic to our faith as well. The musicians shared their love of either singing or playing an instrument with a memorable performance. Eucharistic ministers and lectors fulfilled their roles with care. By being attentive and participating, the congregation of students and faculty also contributed in a positive way. In the words of a freshman, “Mass is such a fun way to experience God with my classmates! The choir is also so fun to listen to!” Mass is most fruitful when everyone there is involved at some level. This last Mass was a prime example of how the Catholic faith is best lived out in a community of dedicated believers.
