“Spread the Gospel, not gossip. Be better, not bitter.” These wise words from Father’s homily during the Junior Catalyst Retreat encapsulate the captivating and motivating messages emphasized throughout the day.

An evident buzz fills the air the moment one steps into the retreat. There is something about coming together as classmates to deepen relationships with God that creates an especially electric environment. The day started with ice breakers that helped juniors learn more about each other and grow in their understanding of the supportive community surrounding them. Following the ice breakers, students were put into small groups consisting of their peers and a few group leaders. In these groups, students had the opportunity to reflect and converse on different topics regarding their relationships with God, others, and themselves. These groups formed lasting friendships and made the day truly special. Following lunch and unforgettable speeches from Catalyst leaders, it was time for adoration, confession, and Mass. In the homily, Father emphasized the importance of faith in action. This was a necessary lesson that students learned much from. After Mass, it was time for final group discussions. Students were filled with sadness knowing that the life-changing day was already over. Two juniors, Emilia Gleason and Elena Riva, greatly enjoyed their time at the retreat. Emilia said, “My Catalyst experience was amazing. I got closer with people whom I didn’t really talk much to before and found a really good relationship with God. We did small group talks where everyone was heard and we always had a good laugh. I would definitely recommend going.” Her positive experience is one most students who attended can relate to. Junior leader Elena, who gave a speech at the retreat, said, “The energy, focus on God and overall sense of community were unforgettable. I had the opportunity to give a talk on how a friend has helped me, and being able to give it to the big group and then later expand on it in a smaller group was one of my favorite parts. Additionally, I really enjoyed adoration and Mass. Overall, I really enjoyed being a leader and getting to know my peers more and more, and I am thankful that I got the opportunity to go on this retreat.”

At the beginning of the day, students were told that the goal of the retreat was to spark a catalyst in the faith lives of all students; this mission was undoubtedly accomplished.
