SG Supergirls

The student government president and vice president of Benet Academy hold the great responsibility of governing the student body fairly and respectfully, as well as serving the students’ needs to the best of their abilities. At the end of last school year, the students elected Colleen McCormack and Maeve LeFevour to fulfill this role. The election of two ladies is quite the historical feat, as this has not happened at the Academy for several years. It is no doubt that having two females in office is going to be unlike any other combination, most typically one boy and one girl, but this dissension is exciting and motivating for the two new leaders. “Gender doesn’t matter when it comes to being a good leader. However, we do believe that being a female duo could have a positive impact on how student government is run this year,” McCormack and LeFevour stated. “We believe it will add a unique cultural element to SG, in terms of how we work together and communicate. We think adding a feminine touch to how SG is run will be beneficial.”
For the two office holders this year, serving on SG together for the duration of high school has depended on their attitudes and ambitions. With two industrious and creative leaders upholding the SG legacy, this year is set to be one with new aspects of how SG will communicate with the student body and what it will offer to student life. “Under our presidency, Benet students are in store for a very exciting and fun year! We currently are revising, updating, and adding various SG related features to the Benet app, thanks to senior Nick Crnkovich,” the presidents have explained. “We hope to make this a year filled with dances you won’t want to miss; we are planning on incorporating a possible new sock hop into this year’s student government agenda! We are also in the process for coming up with new events and new spirit wear.”
The beginning of a new year is always refreshing, and the entrance of a new administration in the Student Government means bringing another generation of forward thinkers and leaders into the Benet tradition. McCormack and LeFevour are sure to keep the spirit of vibrant organization alive with new events and ideas. To those who wish to contribute their own ideas to SG, the two ladies say, “Definitely run if you’re thinking about it! If you’re unsure about running, we were too, until we remembered just how much we love student government! Even though this school year has only just begun, we can already sense how rewarding this experience will be.”
