Finals Advice from The Benet Herald

Finals week is the most dreaded week of the year, and it has arrived. We know this week can be stressful, so the Herald editors have come up with some advice to help you out this week.

1. Be organized. If you’re organized, you’ll spend less time looking for materials and study guides and more time actually studying.
2. Don’t over study the subjects you have on the first day. Make sure you’re equally prepared for all finals no matter what time they’re given in the week.
3. If you feel overwhelmed, try studying for an easy subject and then a hard one. That way you can be confident that you know something, and it’s easier to learn the hard material when you’re confident.
4. If you don’t get something/remember something right away when studying, skip it and go back to it later. It’s better to study what you know and nail that down then try to teach yourself a whole unit you may not know.
5. Don’t second guess yourself. Have confidence that you will know the right answer.
6. Be smart when you study. Finals are generally less specific than individual tests, so do not over-study and reread your entire textbook to prepare. Focus on what you know will be on the final.
7. Take a break every forty minutes or so to just relax.
8. Don’t study for a class all at once. Try to spread out your studying in little bits and alternate classes to study for.
9. Make your own Quizlet sets instead of using your friends’. Making the quizlet yourself will help you remember the information and you don’t always know if other people have the correct information.
10. Study away from your phone. It will only distract you. Only use it on breaks in between study intervals and make sure to limit your time on it. Remember that while you may be incredibly bored while studying, this is only one week of hard work and GPA is forever.
11. Relax. You have prepared for this moment, and if worst comes to worst, this final will not dramatically alter your grade, maybe by one percentage point or two.

Good luck to everyone during this finals week. You can do it!
