Freshman Rachel Skala has proven to be an important member of the Benet community through her participation in a number of extracurriculars. Rachel is involved with track, Orchesis, the musical Annie, and multiple different clubs. Rachel writes for the Benet Herald, is a member of the Debate Team and Model UN, serves on FOI, and attends Marians. Outside of Benet, Rachel is a member of the West Suburban Community Pantry Jr. She also volunteers there. Rachel loves to read, ride her bike, go to the beach, and spend time with her family. Rachel, her parents, and her siblings Abigail and Connor enjoy vacationing together, trying new restaurants, and playing pickleball. Rachel and her mom enjoy going to see musicals together. Last month, they went to see The Phantom of the Opera and The Outsiders.
Before Benet, Rachel attended St. Mary of Gostyn in Downers Grove for grade school. While a student there, Rachel participated in many activities, namely volleyball, basketball, cheer, track, the spring musical, and student council. Benet stood out to Rachel because of its academics and faith-driven community. Rachel explained, “I chose Benet because of its rich academics and the strong community and faith that it instills in each and every student.” Rachel likes Benet because of its intelligent, passionate teachers.
After graduating Benet, Rachel hopes to attend a university with strong academics. She then wants to go to law school. Post-graduation, she plans on living in either New York City or Washington, D.C. Rachel’s driven spirit is the reason she is a Redwing You Should Know.
