This past January some of Benet’s students took a trip to Washington D.C. to support the Pro-Life movement at the annual March For Life. The March For Life is a peaceful protest in which tens of thousands of Pro-Life men and women from around the globe march from the National Mall to under the base of the Washington Monument in our nation’s capital. Those who attend hear talks from many speakers about their experiences of being Pro-Life before beginning what is truly a historical march. The men and women who march are marching for an end to abortion everywhere, as well as the court order allowing abortions, Roe vs. Wade, to be overturned.
Benet’s very own student population, including members from all grades, Freshman-Senior, attend the March every year with L.I.F.T- Benet’s student ministry. Those who have gone consider it to be a rewarding experience in so many ways, and many deem it one of their favorite memories at the Academy. One such student who attended the March this year was sophomore and L.I.F.T board member, Maddie Maldonado. When asked about the March for Life 2025, Maddie was more than happy to share her experience, explaining her favorite parts of this year’s event. “Other than Marching with everyone, my favorite part of the trip was the sign-making party. This is because we got to hang out and bond as Benet students who want to make a difference in the world. Everyone who went had so much fun and we all go to morning mass at Benet at 7:10 together. (And you should too)”. In addition, when Maddie was asked if she would go to the March again, she responded: “Yes, I plan to go for the next two years, this was probably my favorite Benet trip/activity.”
All in all, it is clear that this year’s March For Life was one for the history books. Those who attended from Benet enjoyed going to mass together, attending a youth seminar, and of course, going to the March itself. It can be surmised that this was a rewarding experience for all who attended and that those who did not attend should definitely consider implementing it into their January plans next year.
