On Saturday, October 17, the Benet boys cross country team won conference at St. Viator’s ESCC Championship meet. Both the frosh/soph and varsity teams won first place, which is the 9th consecutive frosh/soph win and 21st consecutive varsity win for the Redwings. All 7 frosh/soph runners finished in the top 15, and all seven varsity runners finished in the top 25  (“The Frosh/Soph”; “Redwings”).

The frosh/soph team defeated Nazareth, the 2nd-place team, by an astounding 56 points—20 to 76 (East Suburban Catholic Conference). Sophomores Ben Farrell and David Noroozi finished second and third respectively, finishing within 33 seconds of one another. Freshman Charlie Phelan placed 4th, sophomore Ethan Baratta 5th, and freshman Danny Shannon in 6th, with fellow freshman Dylan Roberts finishing in 12th place.

The varsity Redwings had an impressive race as well, beating 2nd-place Marist 34 points to 52 (“St. Viator’s ESCC XC”). Seniors Niklas Anderson, Emmett Tully, Jack Robinson, and Sage Osborne ran their last conference race representing Benet, and all four finished in the top 20. Anderson, Tully, and Robinson, along with junior Dominic Ulmer and freshman Ryan Amidei, finished in the top 10.

Benet’s boys cross country team will compete at the regional meet this Saturday, October 24th at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. The sectional meet will be on Halloween and hosted by Chicago Latin (“State Series Information and Results”). Congratulations for winning the conference, and best of luck to our boys cross country team this weekend!
