An Abrupt Ending

Due to COVID-19, the Benet boys basketball team experienced an abrupt ending to an exciting season. After a terrific Redwing victory at the IHSA Regional Championship (57-43), the IHSA Sectional at Hinsdale South was cancelled after a lot of back and forth discussions surrounding the virus.  Although the ending of the season came as a disappointment to many, Coach Gene Heidkamp was very proud of the team’s successful season. Some of the season highlights were winning the Fenwick Thanksgiving Tournament, making the final four at Pontiac, placing second in the Wheaton Warrenville South MLK tournament, and of course the IHSA Regional victory at Benet. Coach Heidkamp remarked, “Our schedule was one of the most challenging in the state, and our players stepped up and competed well all year”. He also went on to say that the team “represented our program well and were a pleasure to coach”. Although it is tough not knowing how the rest of the season would have gone, it is still impressive how well the team competed throughout the season. Benet will look forward to watching the team compete next season!
