A Weekend to Remember for Benet Boys Basketball

On the weekend of February 14 and 15, the Benet boys varsity basketball team had two back-to-back games with one on Friday and the other on Saturday. On Friday, Benet faced Notre Dame of Niles who is ranked #1 in 3A, the same class as Benet. Junior Tyler VanEekeren lead the team with 16 points. In the very end, junior Sam Henessey blocked a player from Notre Dame who tried to shoot for the win. Benet won in the upset game, 45-43. 

The very next day, Benet took on La Lumiere who is ranked #10 in the nation by ESPN. Senior Colin Crothers led the Benet team with 22 points and 12 rebounds. In the end, La Lumiere who took home the victory, 55-48. Coach Gene Heidkamp said, “It was an exciting atmosphere, as we played with a large crowd”. He also went on to say, “It was encouraging to see that we can compete well against two of the best teams in the area.”

It was a great weekend for sports, as Benet played two excellent teams in front of two amazing crowds. It was truly a weekend to remember for all Benet Redwings!
