Boys Varsity Soccer Continues Grind with Promising Results

The Benet Academy boys varsity soccer team is ready for revenge as they dive into a new season. Benet is currently 6-2-1 in their regular season and 2-0 in conference as of September 13.

The Redwings have several talented players on the roster, including senior forward Franklin Rutkowski, junior midfielder Nick Renfro, junior goalkeeper Vyto Staniskis, and freshman forward TJ McVey. The only first-year player on the varsity roster, McVey scored two goals in his debut against Waubonsie Valley High School. Benet went on to win the game 8-0, kicking off their 2018 season on a high note.

Current seniors are on the lookout to play in college, but other players are simply enjoying the high school experience. “Soccer, to me, is not an interference of my day,” Staniskis tells the Benet Herald. “It’s just another part of my day outside of school that keeps the day moving and gives it a flow and routine. Soccer is like the reward for making it through the school day.”

As of September 24, the Redwings stand at 7-3-1. They have scored 31 goals all year, as opposed to allowing merely seven goals, serving as a testament to their standout goalkeeping and defense. With more than half of the regular season behind them, Benet looks to be a threat when the playoffs begin.
