The Benet Academy Redwings baseball team suffered a heartbreaking loss on May 26, as they fell to the Plainfield East Bengals 8-3 in the IHSA 4A Regional Final at Hinsdale Central. The loss brought an end to their 2018 season.

Benet started off the game on a high note, scoring one run in the first inning off of a single by senior outfielder Collin Berry. However, the Bengals got on a tear in the second inning: they scored five runs off of seven hits. The Redwings managed to score two runs in the third inning off of RBIs by senior first baseman Jack Schneider and senior outfielder Thomas Snell, but were unable to score another run for the rest of the game. Plainfield East scored three more runs in the third inning and was able to maintain an 8-3 lead for the remainder of the game.

The Redwings finished their season with a 17-14 overall record and an 11-7 record in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, a record which tied for third in the conference.

As the 2018-19 school year draws near, the Redwings will be undergoing a roster overhaul in the coming season. With the likes of Gio Ahern, Quinn Moriarty, Jack Schneider and Thomas Snell having graduated this past May, Benet will have several openings in both their batting order and their starting rotation. Returning contributors such as rising seniors Aaron Staehely, Mike Wymer and Dolan Glasgow will lead the charge next year for a team who will be looking to capture their sixth conference championship.
