Varsity Girls Tennis Aced the Season

The varsity girls tennis team accomplished a lot over a few months. Coach Michael Hand’s words were short but sweet regarding the girls’ play this season. “The girls did a great job working together to accomplish the season goals. They pushed one another in practice to be ready for the matches.”
Record wise, Benet finished the season 20-3 overall and 7-0 in conference. The team received first place in conference, winning all 50 matches without losing a single set. Even though the tennis team as a whole didn’t go to the IHSA State competition, individual players did and, collectively, earned 16th place. When asked what contributed to his team being able to win conference and place well at State, Coach Hand said, “We had a great mix of veteran players with young talent. A lot of experience goes a long way in any situation.”
Even though the seniors aren’t planning on playing in college, their expertise has been passed on to the underclassmen who hope to continue where they left off next season. Sophomore Rachel Zilligen wanted to let the seniors know that, “I feel like I learned a lot from them and, even though I’ll miss them, I’m excited to see how far the team will be able to go in the future.”
