Each fall, Benet welcomes college representatives so that juniors and seniors can learn more about potential schools. Students can explore colleges from all across the country and possibly even abroad. Students find out basic information from the representatives, like where the college is located, what majors it offers, and requirements to get accepted. Students are also encouraged to ask questions. Several colleges come almost every day of the week during sixth period, guaranteeing that everyone has the chance to find out more about schools they may be interested in.
Not only do these visits provide excellent support for upperclassmen, but freshmen also receive the opportunity to work as “student ambassadors” and help representatives learn about Benet and set up their stations as well as Freshmen can learn about colleges a few years before they have to apply.
This counselors’ office event is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about colleges without having to actually book a trip to go visit them. Maggie Stott, a current junior who has enjoyed the college tables these past few weeks, stated, “The representatives are very informative and helpful because we are able to hear different features of the college’s student life and the application process from them.” Most students don’t have time to visit every single college they are interested in, so this experience allows them to narrow down their options and find out more about what the next chapter of their life will look like. So many students benefit from these visits, which are immensely valuable resources during the long and hard college decision process.
