Last year, the Benet Academy faculty and staff rearranged the 2023 calendar, so finals could fall before winter break. Many students are immensely supportive of this decision, but due to the scheduling change, the annual Christmas Drive will be condensed into one week. Christmas Drive is one of the most substantial fundraising opportunities for the Benet community. To ensure Student Government (SG) can meet their money raising objective, a special event will transpire on the 25th of each month, leading up to Christmas Drive. SG initiated this idea on August 25th by selling ice cream sandwiches outside of St. Martin’s Lobby.
As the school bell rang on August 25th ending the day, many eager students hastily scampered outside to purchase a delicious ice cream sandwich. Sophomore, Erin Johnson, described the rush – “It was exhilarating. Once I received my ice cream sandwich, my whole week was made. It was delectable. The perfect way to end off my first week as an official sophomore.” The ice cream sandwiches were so high in demand that SG’s stock was eventually depleted.
SG secretary, Brian Pipal, stated, “The experience was really great for fundraising and bringing the SG title to the underclassmen, who may want to get involved. It was also an amazing way to get energy going for our Homecoming Week. We hope to bring success from these mini-fundraisers as the school year continues, and we are very appreciative to those who donated.” Overall, the fundraiser was extremely prosperous, and SG is looking forward to executing similar events throughout the year.
