There Were Never Such Devoted Sisters

The beginning of every school year has its challenges, but none more so than freshman year as students are familiarizing themselves with new buildings, teachers, and classes.  During these first few months, freshmen naturally look to seniors for leadership, guidance, and advice, and for many years the Benet tradition of the Big Sister, Little Sister Banquet has helped nurture this unique relationship.

Senior Megan Dobrolinsky welcomed the ladies to this year’s banquet and encouraged both freshmen and senior ladies to make the most of this school year.  Whether it was trying new activities as a freshmen or continuing to make new friendships as a senior, she reminded every student to continue to explore new things and cherish the relationships made in high school.  However, above all else, she reminded those in attendance to make those connections between sisters a vital part of their time at Benet this year by helping a freshman through a class or encouraging them to try new activities.

After sharing a meal, getting to know one another, and beginning new friendships, the night ended with a talent show by several students.  Both freshman and seniors took part and showcased their unique talents, including singing, dancing, instrumental pieces, and even a comedy sketch.

This evening was special for everyone involved and gave the freshmen and senior girls a chance to form bonds that will hopefully last long past one night.  As senior Morgan McAndrew said “The Big Sister, Little Sister banquet is a truly unique Benet tradition that provides girls with a chance to meet people that they never would have otherwise and to form unexpected friendships.  Spending the night with my little sister, her friends, and all of my friends was a great way to kick off senior year, and I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for all of us.”
