Senior Leadership Talks

Each week during homeroom, Benet holds a senior leadership talk given by teachers for the senior class. So far this year, Mr. Steve Frey, Sr. Greg Frey, Mr. Jake Fitzgerald, Mr. Ed Noel, Doc Jennifer Gimmel, and Officer Ron Smith/ Ms. Lauren Condon have given speeches.

Mr. Fitzgerald, a history teacher, elaborated on his speech. While he was writing his speech, Mr. Fitz thought about how he could give the seniors advice that would really stick with them. He wanted to emphasize the importance of decision making. Feeling like it would be a disservice to the students, he decided not to sugar coat the truth. Because of this, he told them about times he wasn’t honest, and how it affected him negatively in the long run. Mr. Fitz commented, “It’s nice to see the human side of a teacher.” Mr. Fitzgerald thinks that having these talks is fantastic, because hearing other people, who have more experience in life, talk about decisions they’ve made in the past can be very eye opening. Once you are a senior, you have enough maturity to handle topics like these. While listening to these teachers, seniors can gain an abundance of knowledge that they might never have learned otherwise.

Senior Connor Kolet attended all of the leadership speeches this year. He thought they were very insightful and interesting. Through these talks, Kolet has gained more knowledge of the people who teach him every day. The main message he has taken away from the teachers is that you have to earn the success you desire through honesty and diligence. Kolet believes these talks will stick with him for the rest of his life because they serve as important reminders of how to be a great, honest and trustworthy human being.

Come out to SJC on Friday’s to hear more teachers talk!
