Girls Lacrosse Season Heats Up

Running down the field the girls lacrosse team outmaneuvers the competition heading their way. With the goal in their sight, they arch back their arm and let it loose. As the ball flies out of the lacrosse stick, it perfectly goes past the goalie and into the goal. This year, the Benet girls lacrosse team had climbed to extraordinary levels since last year. Last year, they ranked 46th in state, but this year they ranked 23rd in state. Climbing 23 rankings in high school sports is a big deal. These girls are amazing at what they do, Freshman Josephine Napolski was the first in state for draw control for most of this season. But the source of the success of this team is teamwork. “This team is special because of our ability to work as a team. We are extremely classy, and no one player dominates the field. Our games have been high scoring, but all of our goals are spread out amongst our players,” says sophomore Caroline Kubacki. This team’s record so far is 13-5 and are moving to play in the playoffs.

For some of these players, this will be their last year playing lacrosse at Benet Academy. Seniors who play Attack: Kate Bartelt, Olivia Brown, Gianna Bugno, Caitlyn Graeber, Julija Zlioba; Midfield: Kendall Gallagher, Fiona McCarter, Natalia Niebrugge; and Defense: Elizabeth Genovese and Jane Wagner will be missed. For the past four years, these girls have grown into a lacrosse family. “We work so hard, and we are so dedicated. Lax to the max is our motto. We eat lax, sleep lax, and repeat. Lax is life,” says junior Claire Moran. With no doubt these players will dominate at the playoffs and head to compete in state. Go Redwings Go!
