Benet’s water fountains play a crucial role in keeping Redwings hydrated. As a student-athlete who likes to get enough water everyday so that I can perform at my best, being able to refill my water bottle at school is very important. Therefore, fellow sophomore Gage Ross and I set out to discover which Benet water fountain is most efficient.
For our research, we used a 16.9-ounce water bottle. We first went to the water bottle filler and fountain in St. Mary’s Hall, where clear, cold water filled the bottle in 7.96 seconds. At the water fountain outside the Counseling Center, we had slightly slower but still solid results with an average bottle fill time of 12.5 seconds. The water fountains near the Chapel (3rd floor), the Idea Studio (2nd floor), and Martin’s Hall (2nd floor) achieved similar results. Each of these water fountains lets students quickly refill their water bottle between classes.
The water fountain that proved to be the least efficient is located on the 1st floor of St. Martin’s Hall. We filled the 16.9-ounce bottle twice, a process that took an average of 63 seconds. This is about five times longer than the other fountains around Benet’s campus. Additionally, the fountain stopped two times while filling the water bottle, requiring us to reactivate the sensor to resume filling. This obviously added to the time it took to fill the bottle. The inefficiency of this water fountain could make it challenging for students to fill their water bottle and still get to class on time within the five-minute passing period, especially when someone else is already filling their bottle at the fountain.
Clearly, our investigation into Benet’s water fountains yielded interesting data and information. Overall, Benet provides ample water fountains to hydrate students. Efficient water fountains are more than just a convenience to faculty and students alike; they are essential to creating a school environment where Benet students can stay focused and ready to learn.
