Swinging Fore the Summer

Address the ball.
Flex your knees.
Keep your head down.
Relax.

A golfer’s brain is filled with a checklist of things to remember as they take their swing. It is a game of patience and balance, and for junior Lauren Beaudreau, these principles not only apply to the game of golf but to life.

Beaudreau has gained experience in balancing golf and school over the past few years at Benet. Even though golf is one of the most important parts of Lauren’s life, she says that school is the most important and always comes first. Still, she has high goals for her golf game, the nearest being to become the number one junior ranked golfer. This dream requires extreme dedication and time. A typical week for Beaudreau is practicing golf for 5 days a week and engaging in physical therapy 4 days a week. Putting the extra effort into physical therapy means more distance and consistency in her swing; something that separates her from the rest of the best.

Beaudreau certainly has quite a few accomplishments under her belt. This summer alone, Beaudreau traveled to Wales and played in the British Women’s Amateur, which was the first time she golfed and/or competed outside of the United States. Beaudreau then played in the Women’s North and South Amateur, a very prestigious tournament which is played at Pinehurst Course number 2 in North Carolina. She also played in an American Junior Golf Association tournament in Indiana, coming in third place overall. She shot 72-74-74, all extremely impressive scores. However, Beaudreau being the consummate competitor, was determined to shoot even lower in the time to come. Her best tournament of the summer was the Junior PGA Championship in St. Albans, Missouri. Beaudreau shot 66-70-70-72 and came in 6th place. This score was 10 under par, an outstanding accomplishment and something that she can be very proud of.

Even at this level, Beaudreau has showed major improvement in a short period of time. She modestly told the Herald, “I had an extremely busy summer and really enjoyed all the tournaments I played in. I learned a lot about my game and played pretty well in the big events. Since I played well in a couple of these major tournaments, my world junior ranking is now 35th. A year ago, I was ranked over 100, and getting into the top 50 was one of my big goals for the summer.”

Beaudreau has already committed to play at the University of Notre Dame, where she can get top academics and continue to advance her game. The entire Benet community is proud of this hardworking and talented student, and we look forward to seeing her success in the future. If you couldn’t guess, Beaudreau’s ultimate dream is to play on the LPGA tour. With a mindset like hers, Beaudreau is very capable of living her dream.
