Daddy Daughter Dance

On April 22, the Benet Dads Club held the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance. Benet families of all ages enjoyed a night of dancing, games, food, and fun. Before the dance, many fathers took their daughters out to a local restaurant. Area restaurants, such as Angeli’s and Raymes, had special deals. At the dance, brownies, cookies, and other pastries were served. The highlight of the night was the beverage stand. The tropical island-themed stand served fresh, fruity smoothies, and gourmet Hawaiian lattes.

In the alumni gym, daughters and their dads danced to a mix of disco hits from the 70s, rock anthems from the 80s, and present day pop songs. Both fathers and daughters danced to all songs. Many had spectacular moves, but none as good as our very own Señor Ramon Marth. His enthusiasm and joy brought light into the dark gym.

Popular games were also brought back to this event. They were led by Mr. William Reid, father of sophomore Grace Reid. In the first game, contestants had to open a pack of gum, unwrap a piece, and put it in their mouth as fast as possible while wearing gloves. The winners were senior Sarah Carrier and her father. Also, back for its sixth year, was the cheese doodle game. In order to win, each daughter had to smear shaving cream on her dad and throw as many cheese puffs at his face in sixty seconds. The person with the most cheese puffs stuck to the shaving cream would win. Junior Sabrina Statkiewicz and her father were the champions with a grand total of seventy cheese puffs.

Overall, the Daddy-Daughter Dance was a grand success. Daughters met their friends and fathers made lasting friendships with other fathers. After the traditional final dance to Billy Joel’s “Piano Man”, all went home happy, and dreamed of the next annual Daddy-Daughter dance.
