Oh What A Night, Downtown: Prom 2016
Yet another song title, but this time mixed with new and old, the theme of prom 2016 was Oh What a Night, Downtown. Mixing together the songs Oh What a Night, a classic, and Downtown, a rather new song, the Student Government voted yet again and chose a great theme for the dance. The reason for this mixture of songs is that the classic song refers to the normal prom while the new song refers to the post prom. Both were interesting and exciting to attend.
The location of prom this year was at the Shedd Aquarium. Students met at Benet and took buses downtown to the aquarium. Several exhibits were open for students to see and walk around. Dinner was held near the fish with students sitting near their friends and having a good time. What’s different about Benet’s prom compared to others is that there is a live band in the beginning of the event and a DJ later on in the night. It’s something different for juniors to experience but a familiar scene for past now-senior dance-goers.
Something else that’s different about this prom from last year’s is the location. Abby Bitto, the head of the Student Government Dance Committee, commented on the location when asked about prom, “The proms switch off every year so you do not go to the same place twice!” Last year’s prom was at the Abbington with the post prom downtown at the Chicago Yacht Club. The Shedd Aquarium was an interesting experience for the prom-goers, as most of them had never experienced prom at there.
The Student Government Dance Committee, who normally sets up and takes down decorations for the dances, won’t be taking charge of their normal duties. The prom dance is still planned by them, but there will be other people to set up and take down tables, chairs, and decorations so they can enjoy the event they worked so hard to create for the students.
With all of these fun-filled and exciting aspects, prom was an enchanting, exciting, and fun-filled evening!
