Girls Basketball Fulfilling Expectations

It is no surprise for most Redwings to hear that the girls basketball program is having another successful season. Although they graduated several key players last year after winning the State Championship, the team has stepped up tremendously and proved their willingness to return to state this year. Through the leadership of the seniors, especially seniors Kathleen Doyle and Elise Stout, the team has a 22-3 record and is prepared to take on playoffs. The team proved their talent when they recently defeated Indiana’s #1 team, Homestead. Junior Katie Jaseckas and Stout majorly contributed to the win by stepping up big in the fourth quarter. Stout sunk a three-point shot with seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory for Benet. Doyle, a four year varsity leader and already committed to play D1 ball for University of Nebraska-Lincoln, shares on her excitement for her final season on the Benet team, “We are 5-0 in conference, and we are playing well. We have three more conference games to win it. (conference) Girls basketball has not won conference since 1998 so this team is ready to hang that championship banner up in the gym. Playoffs are coming up soon, and we are excited and ready to make another run at a state title!” Doyle’s positive attitude is contagious for her teammates, and the Benet community is excited to see the team find more success by the end of this season.
