On March 9, Benet’s trivia lovers saw their 2025-26 Scholastic Bowl season end with a defeat against Hinsdale South in the IHSA Regional Quarterfinals. Coached by Mrs. Dovalovsky and led by captains Peter Warren and Ezra Guzman, the team competed in five meets over a span of just under five months. Members also participated in weekly practices, which helped build team morale and provided players with interesting new tidbits.
The season started with the October Hinsdale Varsity Academic Competition, in which the team went 4-5 and finished in tenth place out of eighteen teams. The following month, the team won the Consolation A Bracket at the Maine East IHSSBCA Kickoff Tournament. Finishing with an exceptional 8-2 record, this tournament marked the team’s most successful performance of the year. Shortly after Christmas Break, the team attended the IHSSBCA Turnabout at Bolingbrook High School. The team started off on a high note, winning their first four games. However, they lost their final four games, each of which was against one of the top teams in the region. Nevertheless, their strong start was enough to tie for seventh place out of twenty-four teams. Later in February, the team participated in the Masonic Bowl. This competition marked their worst performance, a 1-6 finish. Just over two weeks later, the season ended with the aforementioned defeat against Hinsdale South. Although Benet kept the game competitive, Hinsdale South ultimately pulled away at the end.
While the season did not end as players would have liked, the team looks forward to next season with much hope and excitement. The team did not feature a single senior this season. Therefore, its strength and chemistry will be left completely intact heading into next season. Peter and Ezra in particular look forward to leading the team to great success next year. Peter said, “We had a great season and had a great time! The team really grew over the year, and we can’t wait to get back to it next season!” Ezra agreed with Peter’s sentiment, saying, “I’m honored to have played alongside this amazing team and I hope to have another fun season next year.”
