The boys varsity basketball team hosted their first home game on December 2 at St. Ronald’s Gymnasium. This was not just any home game though, it was the annual Silent Night Game. The Silent Night Game is an annual tradition where the student sections remain silent until the team reaches 10 points. Until then, the gym was filled with sounds of the players’ squeaking shoes. The student’s anticipation began to build as the team neared the 10 point mark. Guard Jayden Wright (#3) drove the lane forcing the defense to collapse on him. Reacting to the defense, Wright then dished a pass to the corner setting up Ethan MacDermot (#4) to knock down a 3 pointer to take a 10-4 lead. This shot sent the student section into a frenzy and this section was alive for the remainder of the game. Asked about experiencing the game from the stands, one student said “The silent night game was a thrilling experience and I just hope the rest of the season is this exciting as the team tries to repeat off of last year.” The team emerged victorious with a dominant win by the score of 51-27. Colin Stack (#42) led the team with 15 points and was tied with Edvardas Stasys (#23) for blocks with 2 each, while Stasys led the team with 3 steals. Colin Stack also went on to lead the team with 4 offensive rebounds, while Jaden Wright led the team with 4 defensive rebounds.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team has started the year off strong with a 17-1 record after recently going to Philadelphia which included knocking off the dominant Roman Catholic team. Also, on January 1, 2026, the team won the Pontiac Holiday Tournament with an incredible win over #1 ranked DePaul Prep. The team looks to continue their pursuit of another state championship in the coming weeks.
Coach Heidkamp has a plan of attack against these upcoming opponents involving how to use his team’s size to their advantage in order to free up shots, specifically on fast breaks. He says, “We will use them (his players) in high low actions in transition, in ball screen actions, and on the glass.” Not only will the Redwings use their height to their advantage, but they will also use their speed to fast break. All Redwings look forward to seeing this plan in action in the coming weeks.
