On Tuesday, November 11, Benet opened up its doors for future Redwings with its second Step-up Day. Over 175 middle school students attended and were able to experience the daily routine of a student at Benet Academy. Step-up days are designed to introduce prospective students to everything Benet has to offer. Current Benet students guided attendees throughout the day.
Step-up Day consisted of students meeting with one or two teachers from each department for around twenty minutes. When visiting the religion department, students were able to see the chapel and learn about the history of the Benedictine faith. In science, students participated in an exciting experiment involving the mixing of gasses to make new colors. In other classes, students filled out fun worksheets, watched videos, or participated in group discussions. As far as sports and extracurricular activities, members from every club and sport were on hand to answer the questions of those interested in potentially joining in the future.
After Step-up Day came to an end, some students stayed for a class on how to prepare for the HSPT. The class taught them strategies on how to take the test, the expected content of the test, preparation tips, and so much more. In the end, the goal for Step-up Day is for prospective students to get a chance to see Benet and “Try us out,” as Mr. Grigas says. Benet hopes that Step-up days create a new wave of future Redwings!
