The National Honor Society has been up to some amazing things this semester. Under the leadership of President Maclane Zich, the club has made some major changes to provide a more enriching, engaging experience for its members.
This year, NHS has reinstated the Senior group leader program. There are thirty groups this year and there will be competitions between the groups as to who will collectively accumulate the most service hours. What a fun way to get people to serve!
NHS members have already been busy performing acts of service: at the second meeting, the group wrote cards to freshman students to give them a warm welcome to Benet Academy. Activities such as this are part of the current administration’s goal of incorporating more activities into the actual meetings. Additionally, the club held a food drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Melissa and people at our local food pantries from November 10th to November 14th. The goal was to collect around 500 items, which would help so many people in need. Senior Alli Pieper states, “This food drive is a great opportunity to help support victims in Jamaica. Everyone should consider donating!” In December, NHS had their annual Bake Sale to raise money during Christmas Drive.
NHS has also created a new Instagram account to share news, service opportunities, and photos from events. Follow the account @benet_nhs for updates and event highlights. NHS members are excited to serve throughout the year!
