On October 18, 2025, at Settler’s Hill Cross Country Course, the endurance, speed, and perseverance of sixty five Benet cross country runners was tested. These runners proved that they were up for the challenge, as the Benet Men’s Varsity team won the championship and the Benet Women’s Varsity team placed second.
The Men’s three Mile Varsity race was led by seniors Bob Johnson, Declan Diamond, John Pogue, and William Schaeffer. Top 10 finishers were Johnson (3rd), freshman Damian Schulz (6th), Schaeffer (8th), and sophomore Liam Hruby (9th). As Hruby put it, “The XC Conference meet went great! Settler’s Hill has always been a favorite course for Benet runners, as many of us earn PR’s when we compete there. It was the perfect day to go win Benet cross country boys’ 26th consecutive title, and a race I’ll never forget!” Winning the East Suburban Catholic Conference for 26 consecutive years is incredibly impressive and Benet runners are sure to win a 27th next year.
The Women’s 3 Mile Varsity race saw Benet dominate as well. Senior Keira Jenke earned 1st place and other Benet runners scored top ten finishes with junior Ashlyn Willis (7th place) and senior Sara Luo (8th place).
Both the Men’s and Women’s teams fielded impressive Fresh/Soph races as well, with another 1st place finish for the men and 3rd place for the women. As freshman runner Tallula McDaniel said, “Running is one of those things where it is very mental. Sometimes your best one day is better than your best another day. We performed great and I am very grateful to be where I am now!”
Overall, the XC Conference meet was a great meet for all Benet runners! The Benet teams had great success, and Benet is thrilled for all the runners! Go Redwings!
