Benet Academy’s very own Theatre Association (BTA) had the wonderful opportunity of going on an enriching, immersive, and oh so exciting trip to New York City in October.
On the first day, they spent the morning exploring the city. Then they saw the musical Death Becomes Her on Broadway, and even got to meet Megan Hilty, a woman who played Madeline Ashton, one of the main characters.
On the second day, BTA saw some of the sights in New York City. Benet alumni Jordan DeLeon led BTA in a clinic where they had the chance to learn a dance to the song “Mamma Mia” from the musical! That night they got to watch him shine on stage in Mamma Mia on Broadway. After the show Jordan and some of his cast mates including Christine Sherrill, Andy Garsha, MJ Deadman, and Danny Lopez Alicea came out to meet and talk with BTA.
On the third day. BTA got to see Bryant Park, the Rockefeller Center, and Old St. Pat’s. They then went on to see a matinee showing of the play Stranger Things on Broadway. Following that amazing experience, they got to talk and meet with another Benet alumni, the Broadway Music Director Elizabeth Edoran. Later, they saw & Juliet, a Jukebox musical in which Cheryl Porter performed. After the show BTA got to meet Cheryl as well as her co-star James Iglehart. Cheryl even did one of her famous vocal exercises with them which was an unbelievably amazing opportunity.
On their last day, BTA attended mass at St. Ignatius Loyola. After mass, they visited The Met. Their last stop was a lovely walk through Central Park.
Sophomore Neda Unguraitis talks about her experience on the trip and says, “The trip was so much fun and amazing. We got to see and do so much. It was filled with so many great opportunities.” She also recommended the trip to future students saying, “I totally recommend this trip if you’re serious in theatre and really love acting or singing.”
This trip was an amazing opportunity for Benet Theatre students to learn and grow in their skills and well as have a fun time doing so! It was the perfect start to a phenomenal upcoming year of extraordinary theatre events.
