What do popular songs like “What is this Feeling?,” “Higher,” “Landslide,” and “Lips are Movin” all have in common? The Orchesis Showcase!
On November 21, 22, and 23, the Orchesis Dance Company hosted its 9th annual dance showcase: an energetic and heartfelt performance highlighting dancers of every level with unique choreography and music. The date’s proximity to Thanksgiving break made it easier for family or alumni to come and see the show. St. Daniel’s Hall was packed with supportive classmates, excited siblings, and proud parents and relatives. The showcase featured 27 routines, all choreographed by Benet Academy students themselves. The routines ranged in complexity but all showed the immense talent and enthusiasm of Benet students. Rather than focusing on competition or perfection, the showcase centered on growth, creativity, and athleticism.
Over 65 students took part in the showcase, with beginner dancers performing upbeat numbers in musical theater and pop. More advanced dancers dazzled audiences with a range of complex formations, gymnastics, and artistry. The dancers have been working since August to perfect their production. As senior Alexandra Budney, a choreographer herself, put it, “There was nothing better than taking my final bow on that stage surrounded by so many supportive and loving people. Whether learning dances or teaching them, there is nothing that can replace the community Orchesis provides for students of all experience.”
The showcase was a wonderful opportunity for these students to showcase all of the hard work they have put in throughout the season and it showed audiences the dedication required of dance. These dancers wowed many families, faculty, and fellow peers, and is sure to be recorded as the best showcase yet. The Company was enthralled to have this opportunity, and cannot wait for the next Orchesis season.
