On October 31, Benet had a pink spirit day for cancer awareness. The spirit day was part of the 3rd Annual Redwings Fight Cancer event, which was organized by LIFT, Benet’s campus ministry.
The day started off with a “Pack the Chapel” mass to pray for those with cancer and their families. Additionally, students could donate to the Loyola Medicine Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, which is a cancer center that treats many forms of the disease, as they entered the school. Students could also support this great cause by buying Redwings Fight Cancer t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Since October is breast cancer awareness month, many Redwings wore pink, the color often associated with the illness, to school. Sophomore Liam Hruby said that the pink out spirit day was great and that, “It was really nice to have a chance to dress down while supporting a great cause.” Benet also spread awareness in other ways throughout the month by having a pink-out football game, hosting a JV tennis match to spread cancer awareness, and having the boys cross country team wear pink shorts for their meets. All in all, the Redwings came together to support a great cause.
