For yet another year, Benet welcomes potential Redwings for a day full of exploring and touring Benet! This year, Benet welcomed over 225 7th and 8th graders on Friday, October 10. These middle schoolers get to go to different classes and explore different clubs and sports, as well as meet faculty and staff members. The potential Redwings face a day filled with fun activities that aid them in deciding if Benet is the right fit for them.
Step-Up Day is crucial in many young students’ decisions when it comes to what high-school they might attend. This day at Benet lets middle schoolers explore extracurriculars at Benet that might determine whether or not Benet is the right school for what they need and want in their future. For example, students are allocated time to go into the gym, where pop-up booths are set up. These booths host a number of clubs and sports that are available to Benet students, and potential students can meet extracurricular members and get on email lists. In walking around and exploring different activities, potential Redwings can find what intrigues them the most at Benet. This aids in finding out if Benet hosts what students most want in a school, as well as puts students in the place of exploring new and different extracurricular activities that they might join later.
Adding on to aiding in students’ decision-making, Step-Up Day allows potential Redwings to go to different classes and meet many of Benet’s amazing faculty, staff, and students. Middle schoolers can even meet other students that might be in their grade at Benet. Students are split up into groups when they first arrive at Benet for Step-Up Day, and travel from class to class with their groups, spending about 15 minutes in each class. This is where they meet faculty and learn about what certain classes teach and explore. This allows students to figure out what topics and subjects they like the most and want to take or pursue, and which ones they might not be as interested in. Lastly, in this busy day filled with new happenings, students make new friends and meet others who they will most likely cross paths with again and form bonds with, whether that be a teacher, upperclassmen, or another student in their year.
Overall, Step-Up Day is a wonderful opportunity for potential Redwings to search Benet and all that it has to offer. Students are allowed to survey extracurriculars and classes at Benet, and can find new things they might be interested in joining in high school. Step-Up Day brings people together, and promotes meeting new people and exploring new activities. This day, filled with school spirit and fun activities, is a key factor in letting students decide if they want to attend Benet in the near future. To end, Step-Up Day is an amazing feature that Benet presents to potential students. If someone is debating whether or not to go to Benet Academy, then they should attend one of Benet’s Step-Up Days and see if Benet appeals to them and their interests and desires.
