The stands were packed and the energy was electric as Benet Academy celebrated Senior Night on October 17 at Benedictine University, honoring the Class of 2026 football players, cheerleaders, Avions, and band members. The evening recognized the dedication, talent, and school spirit these seniors have brought to the fields, sidelines, and stands over the past four years. Before kickoff at 7:30, each senior was announced and escorted by family across the field, receiving well deserved applause from classmates and fans. It was also a moment of pride and nostalgia, as many reflected on years of Friday night lights, halftime shows, and memories made through countless practices and performances.
The Redwing band set the tone with spirited pregame performances, filling the stadium with school pride. Senior Francesca Fariello, a member of the band, shared, “I loved being able to perform with my friends one last time and I made sure to leave it all on the field.” The cheerleaders and Avions joined them as they kept the energy high with clean and sassy routines. As Avions captain Vija Polikaitis explained, “Senior night was so much fun! The Avions were able to celebrate all 9 seniors alongside our entire team, coach, and families. Each senior choreographed a section of our halftime routine which made it extra special to perform. It was the perfect night to end our season with the 2025 team.” Meanwhile, on the field, the football team played with determination and heart, fighting to make their last home game a memorable one. Senior Ryan Earley reflected on senior night as he said, “It was a fun night. I was definitely sad about it being my last game at home for the rest of my career, but I still had tons of fun despite the loss. It’s a night I’ll never forget.” Even though the game against Nazareth Academy ended in a loss, the Redwings gave it their all as they were united one last time on their home field.
As the night came to a close, the seniors left the field surrounded by cheers, hugs, and a few tears. Though their time under the stadium lights may be ending, the mark they have left on Benet’s traditions and community spirit will last for years to come. Congratulations to all our senior athletes, musicians, and performers; thank you for leading with pride, passion, and spirit.
