When you hear the sounds of pep rallies and music during passing periods, it must mean only one thing: it’s Homecoming week at Benet. From spirit days to donut mornings, color wars to pickleball tournaments, Homecoming Week reminded students what Benet does best – school spirit and school pride. This year’s theme for Homecoming Week was Rio, which allowed students and faculty to display their best red, blue, green, and yellow spirit and attire. Before Saturday’s dance, Benet hosted an all-school pep rally on Friday to gather excitement and anticipation for the weekend to come. Performances from sports teams and a student-teacher dance competition energized the crowds. Later that night, Benet competed against St. Patrick in the Homecoming football game, where students cheered on the team and wore Rio colors to showcase their enthusiasm and energy.
Homecoming Week culminated in the Homecoming dance on October 4, which gave students the opportunity to spend time with friends, dance with dates, and make classic Benet memories. Student Government hired a DJ for the night, giving students hours of booming music and a mosh pit worthy of a concert venue. Of course, it would not be a traditional Benet dance without hearing the familiar tune of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” fill the night air. This tradition is one Benet students hold dear, as it symbolizes the end of the dance and brings all students together in a circle of community. Sophomore Nicholas Huie said that the Homecoming dance was a “super fun night that I hope everyone gets to experience.” Similarly, sophomore Kelsey McCabe explained that “Homecoming is a great way to spend time with friends while also dancing and singing!”
As this year’s Homecoming Week comes to a conclusion, students look forward to future dances and relish the lasting memories they will take with them throughout their high school year and beyond.
