Benet had a very successful night in their second home game of the season against the De La Salle Meteors. The night of September 12th

kicked off with the Redwing freshman football team; after being up 14-0 late in the second quarter, the team gave up 22 unanswered points. They cut the Meteor lead down to 5 with a field goal near the end of the third quarter. With 4 minutes left in the game, Benet scored a crucial touchdown to get a 1 point lead. They attempted the 2 point conversion, but failed and the score remained 23-22. De La Salle drove deep into Redwing territory, and with under a minute left, the Meteors turned the ball over on downs. The Benet freshman then ran out the clock and claimed a thrilling 23-22 victory.
Up next was the Benet varsity team and Redwings fans really showed up for the matchup. The student section, which was dressed red, white, and blue, loudly cheered for the Redwings. Benet was dominant throughout the game, proving they were the better team. They started by taking a 24-0 lead by the first quarter’s end, and that lead was up to 38-0 by halftime. The game concluded with a score of 52-0, in favor of the Redwings. This was Benet’s first shutout of the season as they moved to 2-1 on the year. Redwing head coach Patrick New said on the game, “I thought our guys executed well, and it’s great to get back on track.” Up next for Benet is a road game versus St. Viator followed by a tough test at home against a very good Mount Carmel. With 6 games remaining, the Redwings need to be victorious in 4 of them to qualify for the State Playoffs.
