The Spanish Club held its first meeting of the year before school on Thursday, August 28. The club meets in Mrs. Lessard’s room, M20. According to Mrs. Lessard, the club’s moderator, “Spanish Club is all about food, friends, and culture!” Their main activity is hosting breakfasts before school with the proceeds going to charity. They are specifically involved with a charity that helps recent immigrants from Latin America with donations of essential household and personal items.
They are looking for new members and fresh ideas, such as decorating the language hallway for Hispanic Heritage month and are looking for volunteers to help make posters for Spanish Club breakfasts. They also plan to continue their tradition of creating an ofrenda table in St. Martin’s lobby during the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos, that honors deceased relatives. Moreover, they are creating new social media pages for the club. Mrs. Lessard defines the goals of the club as “to encourage students to explore and appreciate Hispanic cultures while also giving back to the community through fundraising. It’s a great way to learn something new, make connections, and spend time together.”
Students are welcome any time throughout the year to join the Spanish Club. The club also has leadership opportunities available for students interested in joining the club.
