On Tuesday, September 9, 2025 the Varsity Girls Flag Football team had their first tailgate to kick off the inaugural season of Girls Flag Football at Benet Academy.
Girls Flag Football is a new sport at Benet Academy that was first introduced to students in the spring of 2025. After many girls expressed significant interest in the sport, Benet Academy has officially joined the IHSA Girls Flag Football League. The IHSA started the league in the fall of 2024, and its popularity has taken off. The league now consists of 224 teams, a 30% increase from last year. Benet Academy is very excited to welcome this new sport into the athletic department.
The inaugural tailgate consisted of family fun, pre-game excitement, and even free hotdogs supplied by the Benet Dad’s Club. Senior Bridget Rifenburg commented, “T
he tailgate was a super fun way to start our season, and even us players got to enjoy hotdogs after our game.” Not only was the tailgate a fun experience for families, but the girls also got to enjoy some free food after their successful game. Benet Academy cannot wait to see what the season will bring for this new team!
