Boys Baseball: Summer Baseball Hits a Homerun
For the first time in school history, our very own Benet Redwings baseball team made it all the way to state for the summer baseball season. Benet played their way into the semifinals in the Phil Lawler (father of Varsity Baseball Coach Scott Lawler) Summer State Tournament, finishing with an overall record of 18 wins and 8 losses.
The Redwings performed well in order to receive a bye from
the first round of the playoffs. In the second round of the playoffs, Benet defeated the South Elgin Storm 9-1. The Redwings were then able to pull out a win against the St. Charles East Saints 2-0.
Unfortunately, the Marist RedHawks defeated the Redwings 10-0 in the semifinal game. The Lincoln Way North Phoenix were crowned as the Summer Baseball State Champions as they beat Marist 2-0.
The great efforts of the Benet Redwings baseball team did not go unnoticed; they were hard working, determined, and showed signs of greatness. Junior player PJ Waegner said, “We had a great season this summer. Next year we will have an even better season.” Head Coach Scott Lawler has much talent and potential to build upon with this team. Another great season of baseball for the Benet Academy Redwings will leap into action on February 29, 2016.
