On May 15, Benet Academy paused to celebrate one of its most beloved figures: Mrs. Amy Wesley, who this year celebrates 25 years of service to the school. The occasion, held in St. Mary Hall, brought together faculty, family, and friends for an afternoon of gratitude, reflection, and plenty of laughs – all in honor of the woman who has spent a quarter of a century guiding, challenging, and cheering on the Redwing community.
From her beginnings in the English Department to her longtime role as a college counselor, Mrs. Wesley has been a constant, approachable, and passionate presence. Her impact at Benet runs deep, and across generations of students, it’s agreed that she’s endlessly supportive. Her career is defined not by job titles but by the genuine relationships she’s built.
Mrs. Wesley reflected on what these 25 years have meant to her. “I realized a long time ago that my job made my heart feel big,” she said. “That’s what matters, finding a role that makes your heart feel bigger instead of smaller.”
It’s a sentiment that resonates with those who know her best. Over the years, students have walked into her office with college applications, personal doubts, and big dreams–and left feeling more grounded, confident, and seen. Her office isn’t just a place to plan the future–it’s where students reflect on the past and imagine what comes next.
“She doesn’t just help you build a résumé,” one senior shared. “She helps you build a sense of self. She reminds you of your worth even when you forget it.”
Long before college essays, Mrs. Wesley was literally coaching-as the cheerleading coach for 12 years. She fondly recalled the journey from “a cute little team” to one that commanded attention. “I’ll never forget the 2006 team,” she said. “They had heart. They had drive. They were the kind of team you never forget-and I haven’t.”
Her ability to lead with both structure and soul has left its mark on every space she’s touched– classrooms, locker rooms, or the Counseling Office. Colleagues admire her as someone who says what needs to be said, often with humor, but always with heart.
Even during her own celebration, Mrs. Wesley shared the spotlight. “It’s not just about me,” she told the crowd. “It’s about this place, Benet. This community. The students, the teachers, the families. They’ve made these 25 years not just possible, but joyful.”
For two and a half decades, Amy Wesley has been a fierce advocate, a trusted mentor, and a cheerleader in every sense. Her legacy isn’t just in college acceptances or trophies, but in the confidence she’s instilled in students who found their voices because she told them they could.
Benet Academy is lucky to have had her for 25 years. And anyone who’s ever sat at her table in her office knows-she’s made each one of them count.
