Benet Academy students spread the Christmas joy this winter through the annual Christmas drive. From December first to the thirteenth, our school raised a grand total of $80,469.61. This total of money raised reflects the generosity of Benet students and staff. This money was raised in two weeks through various fundraisers to help families in need. Staff took initiative by selling snacks throughout the day and students could buy fun treats like chocolate-dipped strawberries and slushies during their passing periods.
The school offered spirit days, a beard growing contest, the famous “You’ve Been Elfed” game where participants found their target, and raffles to students in which they could participate with a donation. There were various restaurant fundraisers which gave Benet families a chance to help others and get some good food. Other fundraisers included a 5K run and breakfast, casino night, and an auction. Not only did all of these fun events help alleviate some stress for families in need during the hectic holiday season, it also brought joy to students and helped make the school days brighter and a lot of fun.
The school was beautifully decorated in Christmas decor and students got a break from the typical day to day routine through the fun spirit days and events. This year’s Christmas drive assembly was especially notable because the assembly honored Mr. Ed Noel who led the student government for 19 years. Throughout his years of leadership, the school raised almost half a million dollars to help those less fortunate. These funds reflect on the generosity and values of Benet Academy, and this much beloved Benet tradition continues to help those in need. Exemplified by this were the people who held up the final money total: President Jeffrey Lange, Vice President Hannah Baer, Secretary Emily Coleman, Treasurer Evan Petratos, Publicity Committee Heads Korina Mongirdas and Lily Hallenbeck, and committee leaders John Augustyn, Reagan Holmes, Quinn Knox, and Johnny O’Connor. This year was the most successful since Benet’s transition to December final exams, and brought much joy and love to Benet Academy and families in need.
