Mr. Maggio makes learning fun. By incorporating different ideas and topics into each week’s lesson plan, his students are able to work on specific ideas and topics to become better writers and readers. While some prefer reading the news (Tuesday’s bell-ringer), others prefer Tunes Thursday, where students listen to a song and analyze its specific elements. Many like Monday’s weekend stories, which offer an opportunity to learn more about Mr. Maggio himself and his fellow classmates. Personally, the best part about Mr. Maggio’s class environment is the opportunity to connect with others and receive peer feedback.
His time here at Benet has been well spent. Working in English for twenty-four years, Mr. Maggio has spent ten of those years teaching at Benet. When asked what class he prefers teaching, he answered College Prep Literature, since it “gives students a chance to read books they want to read.” He enjoys the faith-centered learning that Benet offers. An active leader within faith-based activities at Benet, he frequents daily mass and participates in the Logos retreats.
He may be on the water when he’s not in the classroom. Mr. Maggio and Mr. Grigas are the co-moderators of the Benet Bass Fishing Team. Whether it’s a willy trout or cagey bass, the fishing team offers an exciting opportunity to connect with nature and relax.
Mr. Maggio is a man of many hobbies. Currently, he is working on his painting skills — a common topic during Weekend Stories, where people can share highlights from their weekend. Admittedly, Mr. Maggio loves to paint because you never stop learning and progressing; there are always more skills to learn about color mixing, drawing, and other techniques. Really, anything involving nature excites Mr. Maggio. To him, nature offers a great opportunity to find peace, whether that is through hiking, canoeing, camping, or cross-country skiing.
English with Mr. Maggio is a blast. Each class is different, but every day, students leave with smiles on their faces.
