After Benet’s football season concluded, here is the recap of this year’s remarkable and exhilarating season. The varsity football team, which competes in the IHSA 5A Class of Football, had an overall season of 7-4. The team won against Hillcrest, Moline, De La Salle, Saint Viator, St. Patrick, DePaul College Prep, and Chicago’s Perspectives Leadership Academy. Benet’s varsity team also became conference champs, along with winning their first playoff game since 2017. Football player Liam Rooney commented, “It was a great season, filled with many memories. Especially since we were the first team to win a playoff game since 2017. I’ll miss playing with this group of guys.” This year, the freshman football team finished their season with an overall record of 7-2. They suffered losses against Mount Carmel and Nazareth, along with wins against Hillcrest, Moline, De La Salle, Saint Viator, St. Patrick, Fenwick, and DePaul. The freshman team was also able to succeed in winning a game during conference play against Fenwick. This year, the football season gave us exciting Friday night lights, unfortunate losses, and thrilling wins for everyone.
